EFCC warns ex-officials against impersonation, fraudulent activities

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned its ex-officials to stop parading themselves as serving personnel.A statement by its acting spokesman, Tony Orilade, said its attention have been drawn to the activities of these ex-officials, who use the ploy to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. According to him, preliminary investigation shows that some of the fraudsters parade what looks like genuine EFCC Identity Cards. Orilade explained that the fraudsters demand money from their victims with a promise to stall corruption investigations against them, or assist them to secure employment for their relations. He stressed that investigation further revealed that some of the identity cards being paraded by the gangsters are those of members of staff who had earlier reported them as either lost or stolen at gunpoint. The acting spokesman said such people had obtained police reports to be able to get replacements from the commission’s Human Resources unit. Besides, some of the extortionists also design and print fake identity cards with which they carry out their blackmail and extortion activities. He said while measures are being put in place to curtail the activities of these fraudsters, the commission urged members of the public not to allow themselves to be scammed. He further urged the people to report any such cases of extortion to the nearest police station, or send mail to info@efccnigeria.org, or through its hotline: 2348093322644.
